Will there be dance choreography copyrights issue? Hi everyone, I would like to know, if a school is having a dance course for the students, and using the song and the dance choreography the same as what the singer used, will there be issues on copyrights? Is it allowed to do so? Secondly, if not, the school uses songs but their own choreography, will there be a need to purchase any song copyrights? I've seen quite a number of dance schools using songs but their own dance choreo, was wondering if there are any legal issues on it and whether we are allowed to use the songs. Thanks in advance!

How much should the photographer sell my wedding copyrights for? We ordered a wedding package for 1350 which is a standard price in our area, but after the wedding we realized we didnt get the copyrights to our photos. We figured we did since almost every other place we looked did so, and didnt even think about it since we booked a photographer we sort of knew, and they were just opening their studio. How much do you think would be a reasoable amount to offer for the rights to our photos?
Where can I find data about copyrights in different countries? Hi, I'm working on a little project (language learning related), and there is a certain method that I want to use, but a slightly modified version. The thing is that I don't know whether the method is copyrighted or not, and if so, what should I do about it. Can anyone tell me, where can I find out more about this? The method was invented by an American, the question is whether copyrights (if there are any) apply in other countries too? I've tried to contact the guy, but he didn't answer. Thank you!

Do I have to pay sales tax in Iowa when a photographer releases the copyrights to the photos? My photographer is releasing the copyrights to our photos to us for $1500. The photographer is located in Iowa, but I live in Maryland and they would be shipping the copyright release to us. They have now come back and said that it would cost $1605 bc of sales tax. I was wondering if that was even subject to sales tax, and since I live in a different state if that was even legal.

Does anyone actually get sued for using these midi files in a paid live performance?

does it violate the copyrights of a cd when music is copied from a cd to MP3 Player? I don't like theft. Even if it is something so small. I'm not honestly sure if this is theft or a violation of the copyrights or if it would be a form of piracy. I buy my cd's and I put them on my MP3 player then I'm done with the CD it self. So now what do I do with the CD? I usually give them to a friend of mine she will listen to them in her car. Opinions?
If an article contains quotes from other's copy for illustration purpose, does it infringe copyrights? If an article contains quotes or sentences from other's copy, or statements from a website for illustration purpose, does this infringe the copyrights of the copywriter or website owner? Since it is for illustration purpose, the source of the quotes, sentences, or statements is cited and a link put to it to the website for readers' reference. Does this make it okay? What is the fair use exemption to the copyright laws?
What happens to a business' copyrights when it dissolves? Suppose a publishing company places an article in one of its magazines, and had the article copyrighted under the name of the corporation, rather than any individual author (article was copyrighted in 1992 in the US). If this company became dissolved a few years later as the result of a bankrupty, are all active copyrights also dissolved? Or would the entitlement be transferred to one of the creditors as part of the liquidation process? I want to use their article, but I can't exactly request written permission from a company that does not exist. (And excuse my usage of business terms; they're probably incorrect ... I'm a physics student who's useless at anything related to money, the arts, pretty much anything involving creativity...)

I see people making youtube videos all the time in which they have music playing in the background as the talk or whatever, and I was wondering if that violates copyrights at all? I want to add a song to the background of a video, but I feel like doing so must violate copyrights, but it seems like everyone else is able to do it. Is there something I'm missing? gooch: so if it isn't owned by them and I like tag the name of the song and artist in the video/sidebar I'll probably be ok?

Where can I find some lawyer's free consultation online especially on the matter of copyrights and trademark? I'd like to find some online and free consultation about copyrights/trademark issue. I want to publish/republish something which might infringe with the copyrights of an institution. However, It may not be me who is publishing, rather the users/members of my site may publish such resources which may infringe with the copyrights. How is it gonna affect me if I do have a disclaimer on the site. A lawyer online who can assist me in finding the answer will be very helpful. I'm planning to launch a site for students preparing for USMLE exam (for doctors) and the users/members of the site will post questions to help other members for USMLE exam preparation. The institutions concernd with this issues are http://www.usmle.org http://www.ecfmg.org http://www.nbme.org http://www.fsmb.org I've emailed these institutions, but no one has answered yet.

how do I do copyrights for my work? I just want a simple answer I guess. I've heard about registering and all sorts of other things? Will this do or are there more steps?
First time getting published. What kind of copyrights should I retain? I was approached by someone asking permission to use one of my poems in a book. The book will also be translated into other languages so they need my permission to have the poem translated as well. In this situation, what kind of copyrights should I give? I don’t mind my work being used but I also want to retain rights to it. Also what kind of payment should I recieve? The request did not come with any payment offer. What amount is appropriate to ask? As a struggling writer, I would like to get paid. In the past, I have voluntarily given away too much of my writing for free. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Do you completely lose your photo copyrights when submitting to a contest? I'm an amateur photographer, and any time I see a photo contest of any sort (pets, kids, whatever...) they have a disclaimer saying "photos become the property of 'insert company name' and can be used for advertising or promotional purposes." Do you really sign over your copyright just by submitting a photo online? Is that even legal without your signature?

How can I make sure that I violate no copyrights within my music? I am currently working on a musical album/project that I cannot give too many details about, but for the sake of this question, I will say that it references many television and video programs. I do not plan on saying specific names of the shows within my songs, but rather names (not full names) of characters or things that make the references obvious without giving too much copyrighted information. Would this be ok? How far could I push the proverbial envelope when it comes to copyright and references to preexisting works?

Can a design agency be held responsible for copyrights in the work they deliver? My company is currently going through contract negotiations with a design agency who will do our corporate identity system. The legal team in my company demands that there is a clause in the terms of agreement that gives the design agency responsibility of any breaches of copyright that the design may cause. Something the design agency won't agree with. Although I can understand the legal team in my company wants to protect us against copyright breaches, it seems a bit over the top. No design agency would be able to totally guarantee that their design did not breach the copyright of some obscure design done by a different company.
What are the online rules for copyrights? As I understand it, any original material posted on the internet is legally copyrighted by the original poster of that material. Would this apply to information posted in forums? If I wanted information deleted, such as an essay or story, could I force the owner of the forums to delete them if I'm unable to? What about posts that quote my original post?
